Most of us just don’t have the time to join a fitness center. There just doesn’t seem to be enough time in the day. Besides many of us are embarrassed to workout in front of strangers. For those of us that feel this way, thank God for home gym fitness equipment! We can purchase our own equipment and work out in the comfort of our homes. Home gym fitness equipment used to cost an arm and a leg, but this is no longer the case. The cost can even be less than most memberships at a health club.

One of the drawbacks to using your own home gym fitness equipment is not having a personal trainer, but some just don’t’ give you the attention or information you need to make progress. You can make up for the lack of a trainer by reading the home gym fitness equipment manuals or online like you are now and learn how each exercise should be done and the number of repetitions you should do for your fitness level.

Owning a home gym fitness equipment is a great choice for many different reasons. You get to do your exercise in your own time, and dressed however you want. When you have your own equipment, you can workout whenever you want, at any time of the day or night. You can workout in your pajamas, or in whatever you want to wear. Plus it saves you time that you would have other wise wasted in traffic getting to the gym and then having to find parking.

Before Buying Equipment Think about the Quality of the Equipment

One of the most important things to think about is the quality and the reputation of the manufacturer and the quality of the equipment that you are buying. You don’t want something that is going to fall apart as soon as you get it home. Think about assembly too. Is this something you are going to have to fully assemble yourself, and are you capable of doing that? If so, then follow the directions explicitly, so that the equipment doesn’t fall apart and hit you, or injure you. A machine that is assembled incorrectly can be a safety hazard.

When shopping for your home gym fitness equipment, find out how many exercises you can do on each machine. Many will let you do as many as 20 different exercises.

Make sure the machine does what you want it to! Be sure that all the necessary accessories are included when it is sold to you.

Above all, be sure that the equipment is safe and easily adjustable. Most allow adjustments with minor switching or moving, such as those made with a sliding bar or lever.

In the end you can achieve good health and a great looking body. If you’re serious about your health and body, and would like a step-by-step system to help you reach your goals then you owe it to your self to check out a proven fitness program called No Nonsense Muscle Building. Don’t let the title fool you. This program is not just about building muscle, it’s about living a health life style where you wake up every day full of energy to take on the great things this world has to offer.

So take action and learn more about No Nonsense Muscle Building today.

Basic treadmill models can start at $100 and can go up to $5000. Treadmills have become the hottest home exercise equipment choice. There are many competing models of treadmills to choose between.

With treadmills you need to watch out for the impact involved when your feet hit the belt; your body absorbs up to two and a half times your body weight.
A well-constructed treadmill is a piece of home exercise equipment that every member of your family can enjoy.

AC motors that are found in some treadmill units run at one continuous speed and rely on a transmission to regulate speed whereas units powered by DC motors use variable voltage to regulate the speed at which the belt spins.

A pre-programmed workout registers your heart rate without being connected to the treadmill by a cord or wire. Most treadmills come with an electronic console that displays workout feedback such as speed, distance traveled, time you’ve been working out and calories burned.

Notice that some treadmill heart rate monitors clip onto an ear or, for more accurate readings, strap on to the chest. Some treadmills monitor your heart by way of sensors built into the frame that are gripped by the hands, but this can only be done if you’re walking not running.

Safety features on a treadmill are especially important if you plan to work out alone or if you have small children who might accidentally start up the treadmill. The deck is the belt area on which actual running, jogging and walking take place.A heart rate monitor is another useful feature to look for.

The newest models of treadmills come with many extra features.Purchasing fitness equipment over the Internet has grown at a fast pace over the past few years.

Treadmills are a very important investment, regardless of the price; if it’s not right for you, you don’t want to find this out after you’ve set the treadmill up at home. Once you’ve decided on the treadmill that you think is right for you, make sure to compare prices online.

If you plan to use a treadmill purely for walking you are not likely to need an expensive top-of-the-line machine. Commercial club treadmills are reliable and well constructed; do look into a home version. You’ll probably want to buy a unit with a motor that delivers 1.5 to 3 continuous horsepower.

Consider bringing your water bottle and towel to the treadmill store and try out their treadmills. To make sure that your treadmill is sturdy and comfortable and doesn’t operate noisily, step on it and test it out before you buy.

The first thing to consider when shopping for a home treadmill is the kind of use you need it for. If you’re looking for a heavy-duty treadmill that can withstand running as well as walking, be prepared to spend more money. Once your equipment has been up and running, lubricants and cleaners can be used to take good care of it.

It’s best to get a treadmill that has a warranty that lasts for at least a year. If there’s a treadmill you’ve enjoyed using regularly at your local gym or fitness center check to see if there’s a home version available in your price range.

Walking, whether on a treadmill or not, is one of the best approaches anyone can take toward fitness. Be careful, any type of jogging or running, whether on a treadmill or not, puts strain on leg and hip joints.

If you have severe leg conditions, a treadmill may not be the best choice of home exercise equipment for you. Better quality treadmills provide excellent cushioning to limit the impact on knees, ankles, hips and lower backs.

And remember, home exercise treadmills are a large investment financially and in your fitness and much thought and preparation should go into the purchase of any new treadmill.

Take time to do your research, the same way you would any major purchase and buying a treadmill won’t be difficult. Purchasing a treadmill can be overwhelming but with help from treadmill ratings and treadmill reviews you should be able to make an informed decision.

Checking out treadmill ratings and treadmill reviews are an absolute must. Today, fitness equipment manufacturers are trying to meet the high demand for home exercise treadmills. While other home exercise fitness equipment and infomercial gimmicks gather dust, treadmills continue to gain more popularity and get the results people are looking for.

There are two types of frames – aluminum and steel; steel is heavier than the more expensive aluminum, which potentially increases stability but steel (not aluminum) may also rust or corrode from sweat. Always choose a belt width that’s at least of 16 ” ands long enough to accommodate your stride. Choose a longer treadmill belt of 54″ or more if you or a family member has long legs.

A pre-programmed workout registers your heart rate without being connected to the treadmill by a cord or wire. Some treadmills monitor your heart by way of sensors built into the frame, which are gripped by your hands, but can only be done if you’re walking not running. Adjustable inclines let you vary the steepness of a hill.

One of the key things to remember is that the larger motors tend to run cooler and usually require less repair and maintenance. Most treadmills come with an electronic console that displays workout feedback such as speed, distance traveled, time you’ve been working out, and calories burned. Some excellent features, like heart monitors and safety keys that automatically stop the treadmill if you slip, will contribute to the enjoyment and safety of your treadmill workout or help add motivation.

One feature that is absolutely necessary in a home treadmill is an emergency stop button or a safety key that automatically shuts off the power if you should stumble, trip or fall. The deck is the belt area on which actual running, jogging and walking take place.

It’s definitely possible to find a good model that’s not very popular, but is still a good buy. When you’re reading treadmill ratings or treadmill reviews, they’ll usually cover safety statistics, the heart rate monitor, the various merits of the interactive model and computer fitness programs and levels. It’s important to set a strict budget and then stick to it.

You may want to spend less money if you’re not really sure you’ll continue using it. Commercial club treadmills are reliable and well constructed; do look into a home version. You’ll probably want to buy a unit with a motor that delivers 1.5 to 3 continuous, not peak, horsepower.

Warranties can last for ninety days or a lifetime, read the fine print. After-sales service is another important issue to think about; find out if they’ll promptly repair or replace your treadmill if there is a problem. If there’s a treadmill you’ve enjoyed using regularly at your local gym or fitness center check to see if there’s a home version available in your price range.

Once you’ve decided on the treadmill that you think is right for you, make sure to compare prices online with several different manufacturers. Most manufacturers of commercial treadmills found in gyms and health clubs also produce home versions.

You might want to bring your water bottle and towel to the treadmill store and try out their treadmills. Noise from the smallest repetitive sound can drive you nuts over a period of time and give you another excuse not to exercise.

More and more people every day are choosing to get healthier; the majority of beginning exercisers start out by just walking or jogging. Make sure to see your doctor or naturopathic doctor before you start any new fitness or exercise program.

As you increase your fitness levels, a quality treadmill will continue to assist your exercise needs as you progress to light jogging or to running. If you have severe problems with your legs, a treadmill may not be the best choice of home exercise equipment for you.

And remember, home exercise treadmills are a large investment financially and in your fitness and much thought and preparation should go into the purchase of any new treadmill. With help from treadmill reviews and treadmill ratings you can find the treadmill that matches your fitness requirements at the cheapest or lowest price possible; and you’re sure to be buying from a reliable and trustworthy supplier. Spend some time shopping around; work out exactly what you need, and then shop online and offline for the best price.

Avoid These Top 5 Workout Myths

Do you know the health and fitness industry is plagued by an
over abundance of workout myths? A myth is a fiction or half
truth, especially one that forms part of an ideology. Rob tells
Jen about a new fitness program that is suppose to deliver
amazing results; Jen tells Ted, and Ted then tells Pam, but only
half of what Rob said. Confused? Just image how confusing Rob’s
“cutting edge” theory has become. And the funny thing is, Rob
made this up by telling people they will lose 3 inches from
their bellies, and hips by holding their breath for 30 seconds.
Rob, without any scientific backing, dreamed this all up.

The sad thing is most people believe what they hear from
so-called uninformed myth spreaders. After consulting with
thousands of people, I have heard every possible workout myth
known to man, and continue to de-bunk myths daily. Listed below
are my all time 5 favorite workout myths. Always look for the
science and logic behind what people claim. Don’t automatically
assume it is true unless studies back it, or specific
quantitative results are shown.

After reading my 5 workout myths, you will be able to finally
protect your own workout results, and share the fitness truth
with others.

MYTH 1 – Doing crunches, or abdominal work will decrease fat in
the stomach area (If you do thousands of crunches, then you will
have a flat stomach.)

This is what some infomercials preach. They state you can obtain
a flat, beautiful, stomach by using their simple ab machine. All
you need to do is exercise 2 minutes per day, and voila!

Please note, dear reader, you can’t SPOT REDUCE! By doing a
specific exercise for a certain muscle does not make fat
suddenly vanish. Fat is lost over time by burning more calories
than the body consumes on a regular basis. Fat will then
disappear throughout your entire body, and you don’t have
control of where it comes off. Doing a certain exercise for a
specific muscle will only guarantee a stronger, more fit muscle.

The SECRET keys to fat loss are decreasing caloric intake,
increasing activity for an extended period of time, and
incorporating a workout of strength, cardio, and flexibility.

MYTH 2 – Lifting heavy weight for 8-12 reps will build big
muscles (especially women.) You should lift very light weights
and do a lot of reps, 20 +.

This is one that NEVER seems to go away. It keeps coming back to
haunt me again, and again, and again. Ladies, doing heavier
weights WILL NOT suddenly turn you into the Incredible Hulk.
Your objective should be to maintain, or slightly increase your
fat burning lean tissue. In order to do this you must increase
the intensity of the exercise by elevating weight, number of
reps, or decreasing rest time between sets.

If you increase intensity regularly, you will see good results.
If you do not, you will get the same results you have been
getting. Increase the intensity until you are happy with the
progress you have made, and then maintain the same intensity
level.

Women, generally, don’t have the physiological make-up to
develop big muscles unless they use steroids, and train with gut
busting intensity. Most men workout a lifetime, and won’t build
big muscles. Ladies, please don’t worry; challenge yourself in
the gym.

Here is a valuable free resource to help you stay informed of
the health, and fitness trends by letting you know what works,
and what doesn’t.

Visit Wellness WORD Newsletter in Multimedia at
http://www.WellnessWord.com

MYTH 3 – For resistance training, you need to do 3 sets of 10-15
reps, 3 exercises per body part, and a frequency of 3 days per
week.

Where the heck did 3 come from? 3 X 3 X 3? I think someone, many
years ago, decided 3 was a good number to use, and people
started to believe in this myth.

How many sets are really needed? According to scientific
studies, the exact number of sets needed to stimulate lean
tissue development is one, if preformed at 100% momentary muscle
failure. A single all out set is the ideal stimulus to trigger
lean tissue development. All other sets only hinder the recovery
process when lean tissue develops.

Rest- people generally don’t get enough rest between workouts.
Please be aware that the higher the intensity, the more rest is
required between workouts to allow lean tissue development. If
you workout (strength train) too soon, before you are fully
recovered, you will short circuit your results.

It is better to wait longer between workouts, then to workout
not fully recovered. You WON’T lose your muscle tissue if you
don’t workout for 2 weeks.

Ideal rest times (depending upon intensity) are anywhere from 3
- 10 + days between strength training workouts.

You will need to track your progress to determine when your
gains cease. When progress stops, increase your rest time even
further.

If your strength keeps increasing during each workout, you are
assured of getting optimal rest between sessions.

MYTH 4 – All I need to do is cardiovascular training to be in
shape.

Wrong! Please don’t make this mistake! Cardiovascular exercise
is only one piece of the workout puzzle. To design an optimal
fitness program, incorporate cardiovascular exercise, strength
training, and flexibility into an efficient, results producing
program.

Cardiovascular exercise will do very little to increase your
flexibility, and maintain or increase your lean tissue. If you
avoid any of these three components, you are decreasing your
results by one third.

As a result of the aging process, on average, 5-7 pounds of
muscle is lost each decade, that is, if you don’t strength
train.

MYTH 5 – All fitness equipment is good if you use it.

All fitness equipment is not created equal, especially home
fitness equipment advertised in infomercials. Some pieces of
fitness equipment are not well built, and can cause injury to
specific individuals resulting from medical limitations.

My advice is to clear your exercise program with a physician
prior to exercising or buying home gym equipment.

Home Gym Shopping Secrets is a great consumer awareness guide to
rely on prior to purchasing home gym equipment. This guide will
take you by the hand and show you what to buy, what to avoid,
and why.

Another tip I recommend is never plan an exercise program
without input from an Exercise Physiologist, Certified Personal
Trainer, or Physical Therapist.

“I am an all-time fitness freak and I was very much inclined to shape my body. But I did not like the traditional gym for host of the reasons. Then somebody told me about Bowflex. When I first saw Bowflex, I laughed a lot. That looked so small and fragile. But afterwards I was surprised every time it opened its improved features to me.” Raul Hanks

Many people enjoy the privacy of sweating out in their own home gym.

Lots of companies impart specially designed fitness equipment for home use. Some are better quality-wise. While others are better space-wise and a few even do not hit much to your wallet. But to have something which have all the attributes that an exerciser is seeking for Bowflex no doubt ranks first.

Bowflex surpasses all the other home gym brands in the following ways:

Ease of Use: It’s of no use going to a traditional gym which is, take it for instance, 30 minutes rides from your home. You can arrange one home gym of your kind. Bowflex comes here as a sole brand in fulfilling your body building dream at home. Moreover your Bowflex time is 24/7/365. It means you can have the pleasure of exercising any time you want.

Privacy: Privacy accounts for a great deal talking about Bowflex. There is no one to make any comments the way you do exercise or on your level of fitness. The easy-to-use and top-of-the-line features make Bowflex a real fitness device to shape your body in line.

No Queuing: The traditional gyms are very crowded at certain days and times. At that time you have to wait to get the fitness equipments. But in case of Bowflex, there is not a long queue like that in the traditional gym. There is no restriction about the peak hours. There is an easy movement from one exercise to the next maintaining ceaseless flow and transitioning.

Cost Quotient: You do not have to pay the monthly fees in comparison to the traditional gyms. Bowflex home gym is one-time expenditure. Advantages are recurring in response to the fixed expenses incurred.

Inbuilt Quality: Unlike traditional gym which always needs to work against the resistance of gravity, Bowflex serves the same purpose, but in many planes of motion. Bowflex gym is equipped only with those parts that seem to be required for your exercises.

But for a novice bodybuilder, it is advisable to get a membership first to a traditional gym. Once he or she becomes advanced, he or she can easily have a Bowflex a home. Still it is desirable to have Bowflex which is a well-thought-out home gym that can work all the major muscle groups.

A home gym equipment is a great alternative to a gym membership. They are great to have at home as it is easy, comfortable and best of all, it is convenient. One way to acquire a bodybuilding home gym equipment is to look for it on the second hand or factory refurbished market.

Be cautious though as some sellers of school gym equipment is guilty of fraud. Also, the cheap gym equipment is often poor in quality and very unstable. As it usually is a major purchase it should be given careful thought.

Having this kind of equipment is about getting fit, so try and stay injury free. This type of equipment is designed to help you build muscle and shape. The commercial gym equipment is ‘heavy duty’ and can of course take a lot more weight and usage compared to general gym equipment used in private homes. Let your demand decide the quality of your home gym.

Home gym equipment is a luxury that more and more people can afford. And when you have bought it, how do you know that it is effective. Well, generally you will get a set of very training programs with it. You can also learn at a fitness center and practice at home. One thing to consider is that the equipment should be versatile, then it is a good buy for home training.

Anyway a home gym is a great way for you to stay in shape, stay healthy and keep and build muscle tone. Gym equipment is becoming more sophisticated in the physiological information it provides about your workout and they are always improving. That can be a reason to rent the equipment. With some manufacturer and wholesale supplier of health and fitness equipment you have to rent it, it is not for sale.

The first step in setting up your home gym equipment is to find an area to use. When you have the equipment installed you can get your full body workout. Also check for product reviews, exercise tips and buying tips to ensure that you will get the most out of your home gym equipment. As you might imagine, the home gym equipments are relatively heavy and can cost a lot to ship.

The prices for home gyms vary of course a lot but as an example it can now be only $14 per month. With the hefty price tag on some equipment, if you dont mind the bulk, a metal weight machine is definitely the best choice in home gym equipment.

You can perform a fitness routine at home just as if you were at the local gym and using all of the gym equipment there. The fitness machines takes care of most exercise, strength training and overall fitness training. The machines may look odd and it may not use weight plates, but it is an incredibly versatile piece of gym equipment.

To reach your goals with the training you need to be able to effectively use your machine ultimate or alternative home gym equipment properly and consistently.

Why Exercise?

For me, exercise became a no brainer when I was staring at 40, overweight, and a sedentary wheelchair user for over 33 years. It was time for action. And action is exactly what I got when I met Delia Carper, a personal trainer and dietitian.

I know what you are thinking: Who can afford a personal trainer? But at this point in my life, I believed I could not afford not to hire one. At my age and with a long term spinal cord injury (SCI), I was a prime candidate for diabetes, heart disease, blood clots, continued loss of range of motion and mobility. It was time to get busy and make a lifestyle change.

Carper explained to me the ways to begin an exercise program. One choice was to go to a health club that was willing to purchase adaptive equipment. Another way was to exercise at home. She stressed that I needed cardiovascular exercise and strength training for a complete exercise program. Working out in a gym sounded daunting to me; so I chose to start doing it at home.

Because I had done no physical activity for so long, Carper said I needed a transition phase to strengthen key muscle groups and increase my range of motion through simple stretching exercises. For example, she suggested using my own body weight for movement and increased circulation before trying to use weights. I wanted to jump in with weights, but she said I should begin with simple body movements, and as I grew stronger we would add some weight.

Stay Focused

As you begin any exercise program, pace yourself and be alert to your breathing rate, heart rate, and how you feel in general. Ideally, you want to work your way up to an hour workout session (for example, cardiovascular and weight training activities) three times a week. An excellent way to make sure you are not overexerting is to purchase a heart monitor/sports watch at a local sporting-goods store.

As you begin to exercise, do not get discouraged. If you are only do two minutes of an activity during your work out session, that is fantastic. Everyone has to start somewhere.

Carper emphasized that to build muscle endurance and tone, which will improve your ability to perform repetitive tasks with less muscular fatigue, you should perform exercise with lighter weight and higher repetitions (i.e., 15 reps X 3 sets). To gain muscle strength and power, use heavier weights and fewer repetitions (i.e., 8 reps X 3 sets). As the exercise becomes less challenging, the weight can be increased followed by an increase in repetitions. Schedule a day to rest between workouts, and do not work the same muscle group two days in a row. You may have to use trial and error to establish appropriate weight.

Remember, you should be able to complete three sets of your desired repetitions through a pain free range or motion. People with SCI must maximize the strength and endurance of existing or weak functional muscle groups without causing overwork injuries. By performing a variety of exercises, you can prevent overuse injuries and promote muscular balance.

Keep in mind you do not need fancy gym equipment. Improvise with household items such as soup cans, water bottles, beach ball, volleyballs, or other practical items around your home. You can also make a small investment in exercise bands, medicine balls, or weights that can be purchased at a sporting-good store, Wal-Mart, Target, etc. As I said before, I was uncomfortable going to a gym so I started out in my home with soup cans, small weights, and exercise bands.

Ready, Set, Exercise!

Before beginning an exercise program, have a physical examination to identify exercise restrictions and detect any potential medical complications. Once you have received the green light from a medical professional and you have begun to strengthen and stretch key muscles, you are ready to begin an exercise regimen.

It is imperative that you receive advice from an exercise specialist (i.e. a physical therapist, certified personal trainer, etc.) on how to perform the following exercises correctly and safely. You need to make sure you do not create any new injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome, pulled muscles, etc.

We have provided a description of these exercises to help guide you as you learn each new exercise.

The following is a suggested exercise program. Choose the ones most appropriate for your abilities.

Exercises

Day: Monday
Exercises: Chest, Triceps, and Abdominals with Cardio
Repetitions: 1-12 reps each exercise
Sets: 2-3 sets of each exercise

Day: Wednesday
Exercises: Neck, Back and Abdominals with Cardio
Repetitions: 1-12 reps each exercise
Sets: 2-3 sets of each exercise

Day: Friday
Exercises: Shoulders, Biceps, Wrists, and Abdominals with Cardio
Repetitions: 1-12 reps each exercise
Sets: 2-3 sets of each exercise

Warm up by doing arm circles, shoulder shrugs, or some type of light cardiovascular movement for at least 3-5 minutes. Stretching is very important. After warming up, throughout the exercise program and afterward, stop and stretch your major muscle groups with such activities as neck, chest, shoulder, and finger stretches.

Perform every exercise slowly. You should be able to count from one to six from the beginning to the end of each movement. Never hold your breath while exercising and always breathe out on the muscle contraction and inhale on the relaxing of the muscle groups.

Using one-arm movement at a time, whether using weight or not, encourages maximum motor-unit recruitment and full range of motion and helps refine the mind-muscle connection. After completing the predetermined number of reps, switch sides and repeat.

Precor treadmills are synonymous with quality. They have been in
the fitness industry for over 20 years and have invested
millions into research and development to provide the best
quality machines. All their treadmills have long warranties
which are a testament to their quality.

Just go down to your local gym and you are bound to see a number
of Precor treadmills being battered continuously for hours a
day. Just think…if they are good enough for these commercial
gyms then you can guarantee that they will stack up in your own
home gym.

Although super high quality, Precor treadmills are also quite
expensive. You will be lucky pick one up for much less than
$3000 so if you are trying to buy a treadmill on the cheap then
this may not be the best option for you.

However if you consider all the advantages you get with the
trusted Precor brand, you’ll understand why they price these
machines as such.

Advantages

Precor treadmills are backed by one of the best warranties
around. They offer lifetime warranties on their treadmill frames
and welds, 10 years on parts and a year on labor. They use the
highest quality materials and their customer testimonials are
superb. This just shows how confident the company is with the
quality and durability of their treadmills.

Aside from quality, Precor treadmills are also known for being
loaded with features. They have powerful motors, wide running
surfaces and are very quiet.

Disadvantages

The price is the only disadvantage I can see with these
machines. I feel that $3000-$5000 is a lot to pay for a
treadmill to be used at home. I believe the Precor name
increases the purchase price and unless you are a dedicated
runner, have money to spare or know you are going to be using
the treadmill often then it might be more than you need.

Some people also say that it is too big. However I feel this is
one of its benefits as it adds stability and a long, wide
running surface.

Recommendation

Precor manufactures probably one of the highest quality
treadmills in the market today, which they back up
wholeheartedly as can be seen by the length of their warranties.
So, I would recommend buying Precor treadmills but only if you
could afford one. It is one of the best in the market right now
but at the same time it is also one of the most expensive

Believe it or not, although you walk every day, when you start a walking program for exercise you should begin slowly. If you begin too quickly you risk an injury, like in any other exercise program.

This is a wonderful routine for people who have been sedentary or who have a significant amount of weight to lose. Walking is a good exercise when you are recovering from an injury or doing rehabilitation.

The drop out rate in a walking exercise program is significantly lower than in other forms of exercise. It is much easier to get into a habit of walking for 20-30 minutes each day than it is to form a habit using aerobics, running, swimming or cycling. In each of these other sports you are required to specialized equipment or clothing and do the work out in a specific location.

When you are walking your routine can happen where you’d like! Walking can be done indoors or outdoors. Many shopping malls open early in the morning so that people can walk indoors. Of course the merchants also understand that the walkers are likely to make a purchase or two when the stores open. You can also use a treadmill to walk in your own home or the gym.

Walking is inexpensive – a pair of supportive shoes and any clothing you’d like. And it is convenient. Walking gives you time to be introspective each day. Many people find this is the most creative time of their day because they are no longer pulled by outside influences.

Walking with a partner allows you to have some time to socialize as well as exercise. When you are walking you should always be able to hold a conversation or you are expending too much energy and should slow down. By increasing the intensity of walking too quickly you actually lose the benefits.

When you begin a program keep several things in mind. Make a commitment to yourself. Set a short-term (4-6 week) goal to achieve. Write the goal down and look at it often. Keep your commitment; it’s the only way to achieve your goals.

Although it may not feel necessary, walk with a bottle of water and stay hydrated. When you walk you don’t sweat as profusely as you do with other exercise but you also can work out longer than you might when you are running. The sweat loss isn’t as evident – but you still must drink to maintain your hydration.

I can be very easy to get bored with your walking routine when you use the same routes and times each day. Vary the route and the time of day if you can. The terrain looks different at dawn than it does at 2 pm. Change your routes, include some friends, change the time of day, and change your pace. In other words – keep it interesting. You’ll be more apt to maintain a routine if you don’t get bored.

Walking improves your overall well-being, respiratory system, joints, weight loss and circulation. It’s cheap, easy, convenient, and has a low drop out rate. As far as exercise routines go, it has it all. Walking can make a difference in your life. Try it today!

These days just about everyone you meet is looking to lose a few pounds. In fact, obesity is the number one health problem facing the developed world today. Fitness habits and losing weight go hand in hand in resolving this issue.

Some may think that the answer is pretty straightforward. The basic theory is that in order to lose weight a person must take in fewer calories than are burned for the same 24 hour period. However, calorie reduction which happens too quickly will cause the body to think it is starving and thus it begins to store fat so that it can be used later by the body as a food supply.

That means that in order to be successful in reducing calories it will need to be done slowly while increasing the level of fitness. Physical activity is an important part of the formula to lose weight.

There are simple things that a person can do to increase their fitness level. Too often it’s assumed a gym membership is a requirement and although that might be nice, for some people not being able to afford a gym membership is not a valid excuse for not getting fit.

Walking is not only cheap it is the best activity for both burning calories and keeping your heart healthy which is also very important. When a person is extremely out of shape, first consult with your doctor and once the go ahead is given, start slow for example go for a walk around the block.

Increase the speed of the walk or the duration of the walk as fitness improves and then incorporate some hills. If jogging is preferred it can also be incorporated into the workout.

Another option is to purchase fitness equipment for the home. This equipment can include rowing machines, treadmills, stationary bikes, and ski machines.

A treadmill takes up space but overall it is a great choice but they aren’t cheap. Stay away from bells and whistles and finding an affordable treadmill will not be a problem.

Stationary bikes have been around for a long time and they are also a good choice. They take up very little room, are low impact, and a great place to start getting into shape.

Rowing machines will give a total body work out and they have minimal impact on the joints which is beneficial for anyone with joint problems. However it can take a little bit of practice getting used to.

Ski machines are also a good choice for a full body workout however they do take up a fair bit of space. If space is no problem, they are an excellent choice but do start slow as injuries can occur.

Now that exercise equipment options have been covered, food now needs to be addressed. Start by doing a calorie calculation to determine the current calorie intake then reduce this by 250 to 500 calories a day. Do not reduce calorie intake by more than 500 calories or the body will go into starvation mode. To lose weight a man should be taking in on average no more than 2000 calories and a woman on average no more than 1500 calories. Of course if the daily activity level is really high then calorie intake will need to increase as well.

Fitness habits and losing weight go hand in hand because you cannot have one without the other. Combining calorie reduction with increased physical activity is the start to successful weight loss.
