Advantages Of A Home Treadmill

Posted by Wilson | Posted in home gym exercise | Posted on 09-03-2010

Our lifestyles have changed so much in the past decade and one of the major results of this changed life style has been changed food habits. Obesity is one of the major consequences of such changed food habits. More and more people are thinking of cutting out on this flab. And that is why more and more people are thinking of having home treadmills.

The thing is that not many people have time to spend at gyms. That is why people think of having something that could help them lose weight without the need of going out of the house. That is where treadmill makes its presence felt. Home treadmills are a boon for people who want to cut flab but don’t have enough time to visit gyms. There are many other benefits of having a home treadmill.

Treadmills are surely one of the most consistent calorie burning machines that could be found on the market. When it comes to burning calories, they are better than your ab-machines, stationary bikes or rowing machines. The best thing is that you can easily keep tabs on your progress with a treadmill. There are digital readouts that tell you the distance you have walked or the calories that you have burned or the time that you have actually spent on the treadmill.

And since your treadmill is at your home, you can use it whenever you want and there would be no lines there for you to wait in. It is unlike a gym where you might have to be there at a given time and if you get delayed for one reason or another, you can’t get admission. It doesn’t matter what your height, weight or age is, if you can walk, you can use a treadmill. And since you can adjust the speed, you can use treadmills as per your convenience.

Home treadmills are surely one of the safest and perhaps the most relied on methods of exercise. And since you use your normal everyday walking motion, you don’t actually strain your joints and tendons that much as on other machines and sports. That is why treadmills are less painful.

There are several other reasons that are not concerned with your health that make it an ideal machine for exercising. You can read a magazine, or watch television or listen to music while walking on a treadmill. That is not going to distract your workout. So, you are actually making dual use of your time. You are working out and putting the same time to some other uses.

Another thing is that you don’t have to pay monthly fees to any gym. You just have to spend a few hundred dollars on a treadmill once and then you can work out for as long as you wish without spending a single buck. It is surely more economical than having to renew your gym membership every year at 400 or 500 dollars. You need to spend money once and then forget about it.

Which is more effective? Running uphill on a real mountain/hill or running on a treadmill?
I’m curious to know which is more effective, even though the body is performing the same action of running,
there must be some different advantage of running in natural surroundings compared to a treadmill in the gym or at home.

Is there a fitness trainer in da house?

im not fitness trainer, but surely it depends on the weather on the hill/mountain? If its warmer you sweat more, maybe thats better than joggin in an air conditioned room? Depends on the incline set on the treadmil. and the incline of the hill your going to run.. on a treadmil your hill can be endless whereas on a hill/mountain your gonna get to the top eventually?

Definately the real deal! Treadmills use the specific muscle its designed to, wheras, the real hill can use so many more.

I wouldnt recommend running, but i am more of a walker… i feel its better for you anyway!!

I would recommend outside as the air is fresh without the added toxins that a house has (try looking up indoor pollution).
Ever heard of Greengym (hope I spelt that right)?
Psychological affect of nature is good too.

Well prefereably a real hill/mountain, because you will have to move more, for example avoiding a rock, or a ditch.
And outside would be more refreshing, and maybe you would feel better outside, rather that inside a house/gym.

But you can go for longer on a treadmill, because the treadmill never ends, once you come to the top of the hill/mountain you either have to fast walk it down, or just walk it down, and that can affect your rhythm.

Qualified fitness instructor.

a real hill for sure

Running up a mountain is nicer because of the scenery and fresh air. Running on sand is a very effective way of preparing you for a road run. I am not fussed on tread mills because they are indoors.

A real hill is probably steeper plus you have to side step obstacles in the road so its probably more challenging

Running outside is better – grass surfaces are not 100% flat so your body is constantly adapting to the differing surfaces and working harder than it would do on a flat treadmill.

The only way to make treadmill running slightly more effective (if you are unable to run outside because of bad weather) is to set it to an incline of around 2.5.

not a lot but hard work running up hill all the time ,a real hill that is not mole hill.

Running on a mountain is definitely better for these few reasons:

1) When running on a treadmill, a person only pushes himself upwards and not forwards and thus requires less energy. This is the reason why I take 8 mins to run 2.4km (1.5 miles) on a treadmill while I take 11 mins when I do it at the track.

2) It is more motivating staring at the scenery and feeling the wind rushing against your face than staring at a computer panel with continuously changing digits.

3) I personally like the feeling of running uphill as it is quite relaxing. When I run outdoors, I get the impression that I’m relaxing and not working out, thus it motivates me to continue.

Hope that this was helpful!

the real thing is always better no matter what you are doing

outside definately!!!! a real mountain will have different steps and grooves and natural landscape which will move more muscles than the treadmill…..plus its more relaxing……

Running up a mountain would be much more healthy but using the treadmill is certainly easier.
